Photobiomodulation (Low-Level Laser Therapy) at Cline Medical Centre
Let There Be Light/Healing With Light
Most of us have experienced the tremendous sense of well-being that comes from exposure to sunlight – especially those of us who live in the Pacific Northwest where most winter days are grey and gloomy. Not only does our mood improve, our energy increases and we become more actively involved in life. As plants require sunlight in order to produce energy (the process of photo – synthesis), research has demonstrated that humans possess certain cells that respond to sunlight (chromophores) and all of our cells respond especially to red and near infrared light. When the little power-generating stations (mitochondria) within our cells are exposed to red and near infrared light, energy production increases substantially. It is well known that when our cells, tissues and organs are chronically inflamed (sick), energy production drops and then cellular function will be negatively altered. Exposure to these forms of light will quickly reverse this. Recent mammalian research has demonstrated that if animals are fed diets high in greens (chlorophyll), and then exposed to red light, the mitochondrial energy production increased at an even greater rate.
Over the past 50+ years a lot of research has been done looking at the impact of exposure to various wavelengths of light on animal and human health. The term Photobiomodulation captures using light to positively modify the biological function of cells. When Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) became available, the cost of using light as a therapeutic approach dropped substantially. Improving energy production at the cellular level with the use of light is now at the forefront of effective therapies which address just about any illness you can imagine. The reason the use of light to evoke healing is so effective, is that once cellular energy production is normalized, a cascade of complex biological events takes place in the cells resulting in healthy cells.
Cline Medical Centre is now offering Photobiomodulation as a powerful tool to quickly and effectively reverse inflammation. The applications are endless – from acute or chronic soft tissue pain/inflammation to arthritis, improved skin health, improved eye health, improved muscle health and function, improved brain health and function, loss of excess fat, improved energy and so on.
